Marketing Continuity In Motion
"Keep calm and carry on!"
A phrase we love here, and one that resonates in so many ways. Although it started in 1939 as a way to boost morale, it has become so much a part of our daily life as a way to help people soldier on through challenges.
Navigating Business Challenges
Being in business and navigating your way through is undoubtedly a challenge – when we say challenge, we mean a mix of the exciting and frustrating moments.
The key thing here is continuity, it's about keeping going and it's so healthy to talk more about what that looks like. Lets lift the lid on how that feels and what is really means to us.
Keeping Going In Your Business
Take a few moments to consider what continuity and keeping going are like in your business. How do you address that with your team?
If we focus on that in terms of marketing, it really starts to make us think about what marketing is from the outset. Taking a bit of a detective style approach here, but if we are seeking to have a continuous marketing function in our business, it may be wise to firstly be clear on what it is in fact that we are continuing!
Marketing As A Process
At the heart of this is a process – seeing marketing in that way just as we see accounting for example, it’s a business function and we wouldn’t have a business without it.
Marketing takes a very similar form and is at the core of the commercial element in any business. We often hear the phrase
“I haven’t done any marketing for 3 months, I am going to do some for an hour”
Now, that really does stimulate questions and conversation. What would that person do in an hour? How can that one hour be the game changer?
Imagine driving our car to our desired destination – we get in and drive 3 miles and stop. Sit for 1 week then think “oh, I best do a bit more to get to the destination that is 10 miles away” so, we drive a mile and stop for 6 months. If however, your goal was to get to the 10 mile point (your destination) in 15 minutes, perhaps it’s not going well!
Let’s consider marketing as the process that gets us there – we need to keep the wheels turning!
Visualising The Marketing Process
To keep going and embed a continuous process into our marketing, it helps if we can see it. After all we haven’t invented the invisible car yet, have we?
